Salvation Testimony and Calling into Ministry.
Salvation Testimony
I grew up in church. When I was four years old, I finally understood what sin was. Sin is displeasing God (lying, stealing, dishonoring parents, etc). I knew I was a sinner just like everyone is, (Rom. 3.10, 23) and the only payment for sin is death in hell (Rom. 6.23). I remember being so scared! On a Sunday afternoon I was hugging my dad and crying! He did not know why I was crying because four-year-old’s cry for no reason sometimes… I was scared to tell him why I was crying because I thought he would think I was a wimp if I said, “I’m scared to go to hell.” So, I did not tell him, but I did tell my mom. That Sunday evening, my mom explained again that I was a sinner and deserved to go to hell like the Bible says (Rom. 3.12, 23; 6:23). She explained that no matter how hard I tried, I could not earn heaven by being good, going to church, or by doing any other good deeds (Titus 3.5; Eph. 2.8-9). The only payment for sin is death (Rom. 6:23). That’s why Jesus died – He paid for sin! The only thing that could save me from hell was to personally believe that Jesus is God and that He paid for my sins when He died on the cross and rose again (Rom. 10.9; 1 Cor. 15). Mom encouraged me to pray, telling God that I believed He paid for my sin and trust Him to take me to heaven (Rom. 10.13). At the age of four, I prayed putting my trust in Christ.
Call into Ministry
As far back as I can remember, I have had the desire to be in the ministry. When I was in fifth or sixth grade, a couple of evangelists named David Young and David Corn came to our church. I was the pastor’s son so as a family we had the opportunity to get to know the evangelist through taking them out to eat during the week. Evangelist David Corn did illusions. He was able to get into the public schools and invite all the students to his illusion show! I watched as typically distracted kids began to listen to what Evangelist Corn had to say. Many of those kids came to show at the church where they heard the gospel and had the opportunity to get saved! Seeing God work in the lives of the those kids and their families gave me a desire to learn illusions so I could do something similar one day. Throughout high school, David Corn came back to our church multiple times. I got to see how much of a mission field the public school system really is, and how easily it seemed he was able to invite the entire school to his show. There were hundreds of unsaved and unchurched families that would come to his shows. Working on the bus from seventh grade to ninth grade, I was able to do lots of miniature illusion shows then give the gospel. I remember many kids who came to church to see some tricks, then left trusting Christ! God’s work in those kids and teens getting saved changed my life! From ninth to twelfth grade, I desired to learn tricks so much more in order that more people would come to a show and leave knowing how to be saved in addition to being given the opportunity to be saved! God has allowed that to happen many times and hundreds of people have gotten saved! God is so good! As my walk with God grew, my desire to be in ministry grew. At times, I was encouraged to do something else, but God had given me such a burden to see people saved and discipled, I could not have peace doing anything else. According to I Timothy 3:1, the first qualification for a bishop is desire. As far as I can remember since getting saved, I have had the desire to serve God is full-time vocational ministry. My desire is to be an evangelist in order to help local churches fulfill the great commission completely.
